This chapter contains ordinances relative to the true priests. The prince evidently means Christ, and the words in [Verse 2], may remind us that no other can enter heaven, the true sanctuary, as Christ did; namely, by virtue of his own excellencies, and his personal holiness, righteousness, and strength. He who is the Brightness of Jehovah’s glory entered by his own holiness; but that way is shut to the whole human race, and we all must enter as sinners, by faith in his blood, and by the power of his grace.

Ezekiel 44:1 Then he brought me back the way of the gate of the outward sanctuary which looketh toward the east; and it [was] shut.
Our Lord was born in an Eastern country, His star appeared in the East, and His mother, the Virgin Mary, is compared to a gate in the East.
The redemption of the world came from the East. Christ was crucified in an Eastern land, and His blood was shed there for the forgiveness of sins.
Christianity and the Church originated in the East. Jerusalem is in the East. It is the land of the great King, where the first church in the world was established. The Gospel spread from the East across the entire world. The blood of the first Christian martyr was shed in the East.
The Holy Scripture mentions several times that the glory of God is in the East. In the Book of Isaiah, it is written: 'Glorify the Lord in the east' [Isa 24:15]. In the Book of Ezekiel, we read about the coming of the Lord: 'I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. Its sound was like the roar of rushing waters, and the earth shone with his glory' [Ezek 43:2].
Many theologians, therefore, believe that the Lord's second coming will be from the East. In the same way He ascended to heaven, He will return [Acts 1:11]. In the prophecies of Zechariah, we read: 'On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem' [Zech 14:4].

Ezekiel 44:2 Then said the LORD unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the LORD, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut.
This verse [prophecy] confirms the virginity of Mary.
This gate is the womb of the Virgin Mary through which the Lord entered; it remained closed and was not opened by any other child.
